Hi, my name is Michelle Ryan and I am the founder of Millie’s Day Nursery. Millies has been in operation since Summer 2017, it started in my home and after just a year we out grew ourselves and moved Millies to Shenley in September 2018. In October 2021, Millie’s opened a second nursery site in Borehamwood.
My career in childcare spans over 28 years. I qualified in 1996 gaining the highly valued NNEB certificate and started to work within state nursery and reception classes for the London of borough of Barnet.
In 2000, I took a gap year and travelled around Australia, I worked in many different nursery settings, and it was here that I fell in love with outdoor provision. I recognise and value its importance to children’s well being and mental health, it’s all round developmental and academic success for learning and developing within early years curriculum. My love and passion for outside provision has been woven into Millies Shenley and is at the heart of Millie’s Borehamwood.
Once home from down under I started work in a full day care nursery and secured a job as room leader for a large independent nursery and remained in post until I left to have my first child in 2004. I have previously owned and managed a full day care setting in North London from 2006 – 2017. In 2009 pregnant with my second child, I gained my child care level 4, and in 2014 I secured my level 5 in leadership and management within early years. I am also SEN trained (another passion of mine) this runs deep in my heart, my practice and Millies nursery values. I, alongside my passionate team offer a child centred early years
learning approach. Millies nurseries promote the individual child, we value and understand that children develop and learn at their own pace. Our nurseries have a rich love and passion for outside play, we provide high quality interactions for both care and education whilst offering high quality nursery activities and experiences across the entire EYFS curriculum for all the children to flourish in. This is why, I am extremely proud of the provision provided at Millies.
Me outside of Millie’s, during 2020, I rediscovered my interest in cycling and exercise! I am known for my love of music and dancing. I am always reading something that is early years related.
